How to: Transport Frogspawn

Meet Mrs. Umbridge, the frog. (Yes, I did actually name her that) She just has laid frogspawn in our pond, and now is feeling happy. The problem with this is that we have two ponds; one has some fish in it, (who by the way love frogspawn on toast) and the other is for wildlife only. Guess where she laid it? In the fish pond. So, it was up to us to move it.

We started by covering our wildlife pond. Birds enjoy frogspawn too, so we spread a net across the shallow area. (Our pond has a shallow area for breeding tadpoles and baby newts, and a deep area for the adults)

Next, came the actual moving. We went back to the fish pond, and gently fished out some of the frogspawn in a clear container.

Some close ups; they look cute don't they?

This oddly reminded me of a smoothie
Then, to finish off, we put the container in the shallow end, and making sure that no water actually went into the frogspawn, we left it there for a few hours. If you pour frogspawn into new water, they die from the shock of a temperature change. If you put the pot in the water, without letting any of the colder or warmer water in, the frogspawn's temperature adjusts. Then you can pour them in. If you found this useful, or entertaining, please keep reading this blog!
