Twitching with expectation: Outbound Flights and New Arrivals

The swallows will be some of the species
 heading back to summery Africa

As mid-autumn is creeping closer, we must part with many of our feathered summer visitors. As we bid them a teary goodbye from the departure lounge, we can also expect quite a few new arrivals.

We mustn't feel too sorry for those birds on the outbound flights, as their destination is hot, sunny Africa or Southern Europe. In fact, lounging on the beach in the warm summer sun sounds rather tempting...
Bid farewell to the Cuckoos, Turtle Doves and Nightingales

Grab your handkerchiefs and leaving gifts as you wave good bye to these wonderful (if not slightly obscure) birds.

  • Cuckoo
  • Swallow
  • Swift
  • Turtledoves
  • Sand Martins
  • Yellow Wagtail
  • All the Tern family
  • All the Warbler family
However, we can welcome with open arms the new arrivals of winter, who have come to share our hot chocolate, open some presents and generally stick it out through the depths of winter.
    Waxwing - My favourite bird
  • Merlin
  • Redwing
  • Hen Harrier
  • Fieldfare
  • Waxwing (!!)
  • Whooper Swan
